CoHabitat Foundation to move under the Texas Street Bridge

CoHabitat Foundation announced today that it has reached an agreement to move its coworking facility, Cohab, into the Red River District under the Texas Street Bridge.

Cohab’s new facility will be located in the former Brother’s Seafood Restaurant, and will give the non-profit shared workspace the opportunity to expand the work it can do for Shreveport-Bossier’s entrepreneurs and small business owners while allowing the organization to move toward financial sustainability.

Salvation Army to honor late volunteer with women and children's shelter dedication

The Salvation Army’s Women and Children’s Shelter, now known as Carla’s Haven, will be dedicated to the memory of the late Carla Lenert Boyd, a dear community supporter of The Salvation Army and an advocate for helping people in need.

The Salvation Army will unveil a revamped Carla’s Haven at Noon on Tuesday at The Salvation Army Merkle Center of Hope, 200 East Stoner Ave. in Shreveport. This event is free and open to the public.

Bizcamp students to host market place at Louisiana Boardwalk

James K Elrod BizCamp (BizCamp) will be hosting a market place at the Louisiana Boardwalk from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 27. Students from the camp will advertise and sell a variety of products based on the type of business they have created during the two weeks at BizCamp. The market place will be located in the open corridor underneath the Texas St. bridge.

SUSLA sets up 2013 government job shadowing program

Southern University at Shreveport’s Upward Bound North Program will announce the elected and City of Shreveport officials who are committed to participating in this summer’s Job Shadowing program.

The announcement comes at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 12, at Government Plaza in downtown Shreveport.

Norsworthy Art Gallery presents 'Mystery in Stone'

A traveling exhibit of Zimbabwean stone sculptures arrives in Shreveport in the form of "Mystery in Stone," an exhibit presented by The Norsworthy Art Gallery. The premier starts June 8 at the downtown art gallery and continues until June 29.

SPAR Summer Youth Midnight Basketball starts

SPAR begins its annual Summer Youth Midnight Basketball League from June 3 to July 31 for girls and boys ages 10-24.

More than 50 teams will participate this summer. The fundamental purpose of this league is to give youth and young adults an opportunity to learn and athletically compete in a supervised safe environment during the summer evenings.
