Title (Max 100 Characters)
The 25th annual Greening of the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Nov. 29. This year's theme is "Celebrating 200 Years of Louisiana."
The announcement comes via Secretary of State Tom Schedler, Director Wayne Waddell, the Friends of the Louisiana Exhibit Museum and the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier. This year's sponsors are Citizens National Bank, Willis Knighton Health System, Red Ball Oxygen Co., Inc., Advocare, Shreveport-Bossier Junior League and Dr. and Mrs. Ragan Green.
Every year LSEM invites third grade students from Caddo Parish schools to the museum for a day of holiday celebration. Students participate in the traditional tree decorating contest in which classes from each school will decorate a tree in this years’ theme with ornaments they have constructed in art class.
After decorating their tree, students will see a performance of “The Ugly Duckling” by the Opera Express. The morning ends with the announcement of the holiday tree contest winners, which will be judged and awarded a first prize of $150, a second prize of $100, a third prize of $75, and a fourth prize of $50.
The museum holiday tree and the students’ trees will remain on display throughout the holiday season. The public is invited to view these holiday tidings during regular museum hours: 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The museum will be closed from December 23rd through December 26th, 2012 for the holidays. The museum is located at 3015 Greenwood Road, between Hearne Avenue and Jewella Street.
Admission is free and tours are available by appointment.
