Woman's group having an impact on Shreveport communities | Community Spirit
True Essence of Beauty isn't a large organization, but this small band of women work hard to make a big impact where they can.
At the beginning of the Thanksgiving holiday week, the group set up on Texas Street across from the Caddo Parish Courthouse and was able to host a Feed the Homeless dinner for 159 lower-income people. True Essence members, their friends and family provided the food and helped serve those who came for the early Thanksgiving meal.
Their final project of the year will hopefully bring a brighter Christmas to six children. The kids, ranging in age from 4 - 16, are living away from home because of issues such as drug addiction, neglect and abuse. One of the things True Essence learned about the children was they didn't look forward to Christmas because they never really experienced the joy of the holiday. The group plans to put up a Christmas Tree plus bring the kids clothing and gifts. Everything will be donated by the group members, their family and friends.
True Essence came together in March of 2010. Its eight members strive to make a difference in Shreveport communities any way they can, from sponsoring children to offering support to other community groups who are also working to improve their neighborhoods.
